Ngong Ping cable car schedule & departure times

Daily operating hours

Ngong Ping 360 opening hours are officially published as:

  • Weekdays: 10am – 6pm
  • Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays: 9am – 6:30pm

These hours apply to both Tung Chung Terminal and Ngong Ping Terminal. The Ngong Ping cable car schedule operates only within this daily window, and cabins do not run outside these posted opening hours.

First cable car of the day

Ngong Ping 360 does not publish a minute-by-minute timetable. Instead, the first cabins begin boarding shortly after official opening time — from 10am on weekdays and 9am on weekends and public holidays.

Arriving at opening typically results in the shortest queues, especially during peak travel seasons.

Last uphill & downhill departures

There is no separately published “last car” minute. Boarding continues until close to official closing time (6pm / 6:30pm).

If you plan to ride up and return by cable car, aim to start your uphill journey at least 60–90 minutes before closing. This allows time to explore Ngong Ping Village or the Big Buddha before descending.

On busy days, queues may close earlier once capacity limits are reached.

How ticket validity works within opening hours

All Ngong Ping 360 tickets are valid only on the selected date and must be used within the official Ngong Ping 360 opening hours.

“Enter anytime” means you may board at any time during the operating window that day. It does not mean 24-hour access. Round-trip journeys must be completed within the same operating day.

Ngong Ping 360 publishes scheduled maintenance dates in advance on its official website.

Confirmed closure:

  • 3–5 March 2026: Cable car service suspended for scheduled maintenance. Ngong Ping Village remains open.

Historically, multi-day maintenance blocks often occur in March and September, though exact dates vary each year. Always check the official “Tourist Guide” or maintenance notice page before visiting.

The Ngong Ping cable car may also suspend operations during:

  • Typhoons
  • Strong winds
  • Thunderstorms
  • Black rainstorm warnings

June to September is Hong Kong’s main typhoon season, when weather-related interruptions are more likely.

Even if the cable car stops, Ngong Ping Village, the Tian Tan Buddha, and Po Lin Monastery remain accessible via New Lantao Bus Route 23 or taxi from Tung Chung.

How long should I spend at Ngong Ping 360?

In 2–3 hours

If you’re short on time, plan for a round-trip ride on Ngong Ping 360 and a quick walk through Ngong Ping Village. You’ll have enough time to visit the Tian Tan Buddha plaza and take photos before heading back down.

In 3–5 hours (recommended)

This is ideal for most visitors. Ride the Ngong Ping 360 cable car both ways, climb the 268 steps to the Big Buddha, explore Po Lin Monastery, and enjoy a relaxed meal or shopping break in the village.

Half day to full day

If you add Tai O Fishing Village, hiking trails in Lantau North Country Park, or a guided tour, you’ll easily fill most of the Ngong Ping 360 opening hours window. Arriving early ensures enough time before the last cable car departure.
